“CAST ALL YOUR ANXIETY ON HIM”
A Guided Bible Reading To Overcome Anxiety On 1 Peter 5:6-11
Guided Bible Reading For Anxiety
1. Get Comfortable
Wherever you are, take a moment to get comfortable.
2. Focus on Breathing
Once you’re relaxed, take a deep breath in and exhale.
3. Prayer
Let’s pray together: Holy Spirit we invite you into this reading of Scripture. We ask that you would guide us and provide us with wisdom as we read and meditate on your words. Let us have eyes that can see and ears that can hear. We pray these things in the name of Jesus the Messiah. Amen.
Before we begin, let’s take another deep breath in through your nose and exhale through your mouth.
As we read through these verses, think about words and phrases that stand out to you. Take time to write them in your journal or somewhere in your notes.
4. READ
Let’s read 1 Peter 5:6-11 together: Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.
5. Respond
Take two minutes to meditate on these verses. Write down those words and phrases that stood out to you. Feel free to write down as many as you want.
Let’s read these verses again. After this reading, take a moment to say a prayer based on the verses and then take a minute or two to go back through and meditate on them.
6. Read Again
Amen.
7. MEDITATE
Take some time to say a short prayer based on the verses and then spend some quiet time meditating on the verses. We’ll close out with prayer in a couple of minutes.
8. Closing Prayer
Jesus, we ask that you would guide us this week. That you would take all of our anxiety and our fears and that you would give us wisdom as we resist temptations to do the wrong thing. We know that you will one day restore us and we look forward to that day. Please help us to stand firm in the faith but also the ability to wrestle with our faith in a good and healthy way. Thank you for never giving up on us. In your name we pray these things, Jesus. Amen.
