2. DEVOTIONAL NOTES

PSALM 57

Contributor: Justin Boothby
Indian Trail, NC, USA

In Psalm 57 it says David was hiding. Long story short: David is anointed the future King, but the current King Saul did not like that. He was jealous and wanted the throne for his own lineage. So he tried to kill David and was likely slandering his name throughout the land. David spent years (most likely decades) in fear for his life before he took the throne as King. Even the “man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14)” suffered tough times.

Psalm 22: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from my cries of anguish?
My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,
by night, but I find no rest.”

“God Can Handle It”

“David was in a place where he could not hear God, see God, or feel God, and yet he took the time to see things from God’s perspective.”

Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Psalm 57

For the choir director; set to “Do Not Destroy.” A Mikhtam of David, when he fled from Saul in the cave.

“Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me,
For my soul takes refuge in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge.
Until destruction passes by.
I will cry to God Most High,
To God who accomplishes all things for me.
He will send from Heaven and save me;
He reproaches him who tramples upon me.
Selah
God will send forth His lovingkindness and His truth.
My soul is among lions;
I must lie among those who breathe forth fire,
Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows,
And their tongue a sharp sword.
Be exalted above the heavens, O God;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.
They have prepared a net for my steps;
My soul is bowed down;
They dug a pit before me;
They themselves have fallen into the midst of it.
Selah.
My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast.
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises.
Awake, my glory!
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to You among the nations.
For your lovingkindness is great to the heavens
And Your truth to the clouds.
Be exalted above the heavens, O God;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.

And may you always remember, no matter how dark it gets, Jesus will always be there when you need him. No matter what. Jesus will always dwell by your side.”

Want To Get Involved?

Thank you so much for being a part this week! If you’d like to help us out, here’s what was need:

1. We’re in need of people who love worshipping and can record worship music. Or have their own music already recorded that they would be willing to let us use in these sessions.

2. We’d love for you to lead some of the sections (For example, you would film yourself using your phone blessing and lighting the candle, or saying the Lord’s prayer. And we’re open to other spiritual practices that help you grow with Jesus).

3. If you know how to edit videos, use WordPress sites, and/or love social media and would like to help out, please reach out!

You can email us at [email protected] or use the form on the website here.
